What is IP Spoofing?

IP spoofing is when a hacker disguises their computer to look like a trusted device on your network. It's like a thief wearing a fake ID badge to enter a secure building.

How it works:

  • Every device has a unique address (IP address) — like a digital ID card
  • Hackers fake this address to pretend they're someone you trust
  • Your network thinks the hacker is legitimate and lets them in
  • Once inside, they can steal data or cause damage.

  • Hide their real identity while attacking your business systems.

How to protect yourself:

  • Enable anti-spoofing features on your firewall - these features verify that incoming connections are genuine
  • Contact your IT support or Internet Service Provider to set this up, they can configure your firewall to block fake addresses.
